Responding to Student Writing

 The author of this article is trying to know how students find it so hard to understand the feedback that the teachers gave them in their assignments such as essays. But also helping the reader to evaluate what they have written. He is also trying to convince the teachers to help the students not confusing them when they are making corrections in the rough draft. When the teachers write comments on the essays is important because the writer knows his mistakes and the stuff that went wrong, but what the article is saying is that the teachers make it very confusing. The author really wanted to know why this issue affected the students and if it was really the teachers fault. They make an experiment by using thirty-five teachers at New York University  and the University of Oklahoma and their students, but the teachers graded the first and second rough draft of the essays. But to make the experiment even better the students also had to write an essay on a computer and they used a program called "Writer's Workbench", that could scan the essay more quickly. The hard part was that the teachers were the ones that confuse the poor students with their mean comments and comments that destroy the whole point of the essay. Appropriate in text means that the teacher wants to take away with her comments from the original purpose or idea, and of course, she doesn't see the whole idea. What the author learn on this study was that the teachers doesn't help them a lot with their commentaries, but in defense the teachers say that they need workshops to learn. The students need to learn to interpret the teachers commentaries so they can make the correct corrections and the students don't go away from his point of view. Correction by the teacher on the firsts drafts are good for the students as long what they are writing is coherent, and they are just grammatical. I really agree with everything the author say because I am a student and I have felt very lost or confuse when a teacher comments me something that I don't know what she wants me to do. But know on I will try to put my ideas in a correct order and if a teacher makes me a correction be sure what she is talking about and that she is not going away from my idea.
